Check out WNCN/NBC's shout out to Wendell Middle during Wes' weather segment! | Our 7th Grade team was excited to welcome Wes Hohenstien, Chief Meteorologist at WNCN/NBC in Raleigh. He visited to enlighten our students about the science and technology of gathering weather data. We learned about the process and frequency of launching weather balloons. Why does the government spend so much money on gathering weather data? Why is this important for our society? Economy? Government systems? They calculated the cost of launching these across the US. It's over 8 million dollars, by the way! He showed the students images of severe damage caused by the infamous Hurricane Camille in 1969. Whoa! Wes was funny, knowledgeable and engaging. Our students had an enriching experience they will remember. Thanks for coming out to Wendell, Wes! |
