Our club members met today to learn how to use Sketchup Make for printing in 3D. We're getting use of our Makerbot Mini Replicator. We can't thank Wake Electric enough for their support through the Bright Ideas grant.
We certainly saw some bright ideas today! Mr. Peebles, our CTE Technology teacher, was on hand to assist students in using the Sketchup Make program to build items. They started today's meeting by reading an article from MasterSketchup.com called, "8 Tips for 3D Printing with Sketchup". They learned to build their objects with closed shapes, to keep a thickness when building sides and to limit their design to a 4" cube. Using their own problem-solving skills, students asked questions, consulted online tutorials, researched dimensions from manufacturer sites, and looked for creative ideas on 3D printing forums like Thingiverse.
They worked right up until the end of our club time. Time flies when learning is fun!
We'll be back on April 1st for more DigiLit fun.
